Club MMA Wins at Bando Kickboxing Tournament!

Club MMA fighter Mike Mastrullo travels to Columbus, OH to fight in the yearly Bando Kickboxing Tournament. Mike fought a third battle at the 165lb weight class and won with a unanamous descision. Great Job Mike!!!

Movie Night

We had our first ever movie night at Club MMA on Friday November 21. The kids all got to walk down the red carpet in style! The popcorn was popping all night and the movie turned out to be a big hit. After a week of trying to learn the crane kick in class, they all finally understood when they got to see Daniel-son himself pull off the famous move in The Karate Kid.

Glad everyone could make it! It turned out to be another successful event here at Club MMA!

Successful Parent Night

The kids got to show off their skills and work out their parents last week at Parent Night. It was a huge hit and thanks to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, and babysitters that participated!

All the parents were amazed just how hard their kids could hit!

Halloween Party

The Halloween Party was filled with devilish fun and goolish games! All the kids had fun and even some of the Club MMA characters showed up!



Besides enjoying some yummy treats, the kids got to show their skills in the relay races and games. They popped their balloons with style and ducked, jumped and dodged their way through the night. They even were able to pass that "hot pumpkin." Thanks to all the parents for taking the time to get them ready, we know costumes are time consuming! We had so much fun and appreciate everyone's help!

San Francisco Training

Just got back from intensive training weekend in San Francisco with my BJJ Coach, David Meyer. My training partner Brian Croll and myself made the trip and it was a blast but I am glad to be back. We trained privately with David Meyer in the mornings and in the evening hit up local BJJ clubs for open mats.

We spent our last day at the Famous Fairtex Gym training with a couple pro MMA fighters and No-GI World Champs. What a great way to train, everyone was so nice and really helped us improve our game.

We did get a chance to check out the city, check out our pics!!!

Machado Seminar

We were lucky enough to be able to go to the JJ Machado Seminar in Evansville, Indiana. It was hosted by Jiu Jitsu Concepts, a BJJ school owned by BJJ Black Belt Bruce Shephard.

JJ Machado is my coaches instructor, so it was cool to learn from the source. Jean Jacques showed up and everyone flocked to him, he took the time to shake everyones hand and got straight to work. There were 60 people on the mat and only two white belts. That was the first time I was on the mat with that many BJJ students at one time.

JJ was teaching a series from the turtle positions, it was a lot of awesome information that we were luckily able to pick up fast.

Great seminar!!! I am glad I had a chance to go.

August 23 - Fight Night

Unfortunately one of our MMA guys, Bobby Todd, worked hard and hoped to get a fight at Spears Gym last week. No one weighed in to fight in his weight class so he didn't get to try out his skills in the cage.

However, at weigh-ins there was a guy looking to fight in the Heavyweight division, so we put a call in to Zach "Money" Moody known for his heavy hands and can do attitude. After finishing his burrito at Chipotle, Zach stepped up and went to weigh in. He ended up winning in the first round, the official call was win due to "broken nose." None-the-less, a wonderful win for "Money" Moody and Club MMA.

Other fighters we don't recommend the Burrito Diet before fights, don't try this at home, it's for trained professionals only!

It ended up being an amusing night, good job Zach!

Kids Water Bash

Last weekend we had our fun monthly event with the kids — an outside water bash and we had a blast!!




We had water balloon tosses, pass the sponge relays, contests and more! Then we got to enjoy some summer eats with hotdogs and watermelon for dessert. It was a great time before the kids got back into school. To see all the water bash pics click here.

MMA Class

Our MMA program is really rocking out! We are lucky to have a great group of guys, some want to fight and other just love to train. MMA training is all about having great training partners to push you and keep you safe. All the guys are working really hard! Special thanks to everyone for helping Bobby get ready for his fight. Junior Promotional Exam

Our Junior Jabber Promotional Exam took place Friday, Aug. 8.

It was a very exciting Friday night at Club MMA, we held our very first promotional exam for the Junior Jabber Program. The students have been working very hard this summer and they got to see their dedication pay off. What a great lesson for them! I just want to thank all the students and parents for the hard-work this summer!

Keith Ungerbuehler - Intimidation Fight

July 26, 2008 Fight Night

Weighing in at 158lbs and fighting out of Club MMA, Keith Ungerbuehler!!!

What an awesome fight hosted by Intimidation Cage Fighting on Saturday July 26^th, 2008 at the Drawbridge INN. Keith’s opponent Steven Grguric was a super tough fighter, but Keith finished strong with a TKO in the 3^rd. It was time for a celebration after we got back from St. Luke’s Hospital. Keith received 14 stitches total over both eyes; he was in great spirits the whole time. Special Thanks to the guys who helped Keith train and to all the friends and family who came out and watched the fight! Thanks to Steven Grguric for the fight – Keith said you are the strongest and toughest guy he has ever trained with or fought.

MAIA Supershow Trip

Hello Everyone I am very excited about starting this blog, I have
always written in a journal about my training and my experiences of
learning through the years. Now I am going public with my
experiences, training, and adventures.

My most recent adventure was the MAIA Supershow (Martial Arts
Industry Association) held in Orlando, Florida. It is the biggest
trade show for martial arts in the country. I have been attending for
the past 4 years and have always walked away with knowledge. This
year I got my chance to go and give my knowledge. My BJJ Coaches
David Meyer and John Will (BJJ America) invited me to work their
booth and help put on demo’s of their new MMA program - ALPHA MMA -
(www.alphamma.com).

It was a completely different experience meeting the big wigs in the
martial arts industry. Got to spend a lot of time on the mat with BJJ
Black Belt Brian Johnson getting private lessons and learning how to
train better. It was a great experience for myself, I really walked
away with a lot of information and look forward to training harder.

I already made plans with my BJJ coach David Meyer to fly to San
Francisco and train with him at Fairtex Gym. That’s going to be
pretty cool!

Train Hard, Train Smart and Train Safe! Everyone has to work tomorrow!
